  Counselling and Psychotherapy

How would you like things to be different? Ask yourself these questions...

·         How would I like things to be different?

·         What is it I want to change?

·         How will I do this?

·         How will I be different?

·         How will other people know when I have changed?

·         In what ways am I likely to stop myself from making changes?

·         How might I prevent this from happening?

Why Go For Counselling?

Help and Support

When life becomes a struggle and problems seem insurmountable, counselling can offer a way forward. Your counsellor can provide an opportunity for you to be heard in a safe, supportive and accepting way. It can be useful for dealing with difficult situations in your life like divorce, moving house, bereavement or loss. Many people find counselling helps them through stressful or difficult times and to manage their anxiety. It can be used short term to help with a specific problem or long term for dealing with ongoing or enduring circumstances. Some people are not sure what the matter is but know they need help. Counselling can help you find a way forward.

Working it Out

Psychotherapy can also be a way of moving forward and is often seen as a continuation of the counselling process. Psychotherapy tends to look more deeply at things like understanding difficult feelings, patterns of self limiting behaviour, uncomfortable, awkward or even self damaging situations that seem to repeat themselves. It can be a way to heal old wounds, move on and feel better. Like counselling, psychotherapy can be used to look at and deal with any of the issues above and more, no mater how small or insignificant it may seem.

Getting in Touch

Phone or email for an initial session to meet with me and say what you would like help with. This is an opportunity for you to say a little about yourself and your story. You can also find out about how counselling and psychotherapy work and how either may be of benefit to you. Sessions are usually weekly and last for 50 minutes. People who are new to this usually feel a little apprehensive before their first session. It is normal to feel this way when you are doing something for the first time.

What is Transactional Analysis?
Transactional Analysis was first established about 50 years ago. It is a theory of personality developed by Eric Berne M.D. who suggested that we each have three ego-states, Parent, Adult and Child. It is possible that we favour operating from one of these ego-states. One of the goals in TA therapy is to get people to have access to all three ego-states and to discover their full potential as human beings. TA therapy works because it deals with the person's inner and outer world.
TA Quotes

"From birth human beings need recognition, stimulation and certainty. We need to feel alive, acknowledged and safe. When these needs aren't met we pursue them. "Jean Illsley Clarke

"The moment the little boy is concerned with which is a jay and which is a sparrow, he can no longer see the birds or hear them sing." Eric Berne M.D.

"We are born princes and the civilizing process makes us frogs.Eric Berne M.D.

"Each person designs his own life, freedom gives him the power to carry out his own designs, and power gives the freedom to interfere with the designs of others."  Eric Berne M.D.
